I haven't dabbled in the visual arts in a while, and honestly, I'm not that distressed about it. Maybe when (if) I start again, I'll post some of it, but until then, I've grown a tad tired of DeviantArt. Goodbye for now.
Track Listing, Fall 2007
I'm nearing the end of my tracks (I know I haven't posted one since December 1st- Finals sucked most of the life out of me), but I'm realizing, as I do these reflections, that I'm not satisfied with the listing. I was recently talking with a friend of mine, Steve Slagg, who has been doing yearly self portrait playlists for the last couple of years. I've decided to make this into a semester self-portrait. However, as it stands, my semester didn't end with the completion of this track list. I found new music, experienced new things, and was shaped differently than this list conveys. So, in short, I've put the reflective writings on hold till th

Lyrics
I haven't been writing the last week or so, mainly because I've been busy, but also because this next track is very important to me, and I didn't want to rush it. In fact, I'm a little hesitant even now, to write about it. I want to do it justice, in a way, that I know I will never be able to achieve.
The sighing strings open this song and whisper to you that there is something dreadfully wrong with this world. Lyrics
This is another song about looking for home. It follows the Bright Eyes song, but it has a softer tone, even though the content evokes some of the same feelings. I thoroughly enjoy the play between Rosie's vocals and Sufjan's in this song. I was able to track down an mp3 for your enjoyment.
Rosie writes sad songs. Yes. But to limit her to that cheapens her art. Her songs are full of complex and often conflicting emotions, and that what makes her poetry so moving. This song is about longing, but it's also about finding warmth, and being unsatisfied in that. It's about comforting others, wh

Track 10. Tourist Trap by Bright Eyes
Lyrics
This is very likely my favorite Bright Eyes song. It deals with themes of identity and a loss of a sense of home. The instrumentation for this song is fairly uncommon for Bright Eyes, aside from the standard guitar work it features some minimalist piano, what I believe is a slide guitar in the background, some whistling, and a muted harmonica. I believe the percussion is achieved by stepping gingerly on the ground. It's light, peaceful with a hint of trepidation and unease. I was able to track down an mp3 on the record label's site, enjoy.
